Septic Sense Week #3

Septic Sense Week #3

Here are some tips for maintaining your septic system and preventing problems:

  • Have your tank pumped out as recommended by your Maintenance Provider. This will remove the solids that accumulate at the bottom and prevent them from clogging the drainfield.
  • Have your effluent filter cleaned as needed, approximately every 6 months. This will prevent solids from escaping the tank and damaging the drainfield.
  • Keep your septic tank cover accessible for inspections and pumping. Install risers if necessary and always keep the tank lid secure. This will make it easier to check the tank condition and avoid accidents or unauthorized access.
  • Do not enter or access a septic tank. It is dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Septic tanks contain toxic gases and lack oxygen. Only trained professionals should enter a septic tank.
